The Salone del Mobile 2023, one of the most important global design and furniture events, which as every year took place in Rho Fiera Milano, has just ended. Over 2000 exhibitors and a multitude of collections, allowed us to intercept the most interesting furniture trends for this 2023:

1. VIBRANT COLORS AND PATTERNS
A common thread running through many collections was undoubtedly the explosion of colors. Unlike the trends of recent years that saw minimalism as the protagonist, and consequently clean lines and neutral colors, this edition of the Salone del Mobile showed an opposite tenence: bold colors, patterns and textures took center stage, giving personality and originality to any space.

The colors that will dominate the scene of living spaces during the coming year are shades of yellow, blue, red, bright green, and moss green. For sofas, the use of black is also recurrent. Reconfirmed instead are more natural colors such as terracotta and orange.

In this proposed it is worth mentioning Cassina‘s installation (curated by Cassina art director Patricia Urquiola with Federica Sala) on the occasion of the Fuori Salone, with a set made evocative by a display under the banner of red, the brand’s symbolic color, celebrating fifty years of the iMaestri collection.

2. ROUNDED SHAPES
Among the trends of the Salone, soft, rounded forms for a reassuring and enveloping effect that evoke maximum comfort are confirmed in 2023.

Protagonists of Milan Design Week 2023, we find them in upholstered collections, in furniture complements such as poufs, coffee tables or storage furniture and tables, sculptural pieces with rounded corners.

Of note here are the new Cinnamon armchair by Molteni&C created by Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa and the Cloud sofa by Gallotti and Radice exhibited at the Salone and Fuorisalone.

3. INNOVATIVE AND SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS
There was a common denominator to all the Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone exhibitions: absolute experimentation with materials. As every year, designers made a commitment to increasingly sustainable production, blending tradition and innovation.

This edition was characterized by the presence of many projects for which ecological and sustainable materials were used, such as furniture made of reclaimed wood, bamboo and cork but also with textures increasingly close to those of marble, in addition to the use of real marble.

A concrete example of this is the ‘Old Ford’ table, which embodies Molteni&C‘s commitment to aesthetics, functionality and technical innovation, but also Maxalto‘s exhibition at the Salone, with a series of distinct environments made extraordinary by high luminous walls made of rice paper in which the brand’s most iconic products dialogue with precious objects and works of art.

4. INTEGRATED LIGHTING
A recurring trend in the products displayed by Molteni&C and numerous other brands during Salone and Fuorisalone is definitely that of integrated lighting.
Lighting, which highlights the perimeter of the furniture or even just a detail of it, combines the ecstatic factor with functionality and technology.

Light is slowly becoming an increasingly present accessory in the world of living systems, wall units, walk-in closets and wardrobes, shelves, shelves and bed heads.

5. DISPLAY CUPBOARDS AND SIDEBOARDS
Another trend worth noting is the one involving storage furniture that increasingly requires the function of displaying as well as containing.
This is how sideboards and credenzas become true displays with glass doors showing backlit cavities, backs and sides in different materials.

6. MODULAR DESIGN
In conclusion, the Salone del Mobile 2023 saw an explosion of modular design. It focuses on flexibility and customization, offering custom furniture solutions for spaces of any size and adaptable to the user’s needs, allowing the creation of versatile and functional spaces that adapt to the needs of those who live in them.
