The collection was first presented in June 2022 during Milan Design Week. It brings to life British fashion designer Stella McCartney’s long-standing passion for the works of legendary designer and architect Mario Bellini, who designed the ‘Le Bambole’ series half a century ago, making them some of the most iconic objects in the furniture world.
The project, consisting of the Bambola armchair, the Bibambola 2-seater sofa and the Granbambola 3-seater sofa, formalizes the first collaboration in the world of interior design for the British fashion designer, a pioneer of sustainable and responsible fashion.
The seats are upholstered in the hand-designed “Fungi Forest” fabric from the Stella McCartney Summer 2022 runway collection. The fabric, which does not release microplastics into the environment, is made of 100% biodegradable polyester with 25% bio-based and 75% petroleum-derived raw materials.
Fifty years after its debut, the Le Bambole series, evolves with construction elements that make it even more comfortable and sustainable. It combines the quality and durability that characterizes B&B Italia products with the responsible choice of materials and production techniques that characterize the British designer’s green vision.
While the original structure of Le Bambole consists of a metal frame covered in polyurethane, the reissue uses the latest generation of materials. The recycled polyethylene frame, polyurethane foam elements, and thermoplastic elastomers (all sheathed in a recycled PET-derived undercover) give the chair an iconic shape, comfort, and breathability.
